Huey's Seed Corn Sack Apron / Apron From Vintage Seed Sack Size S-XL

Sorry, this item has sold.

Huey's Genuine Reliable Hybrid Seed Corn was the product this vintage sack contained. Judging from the vibrant colors, the bag probably was quickly taken in the house after dumping the seed and destined for other uses. One might doubt it was authentic, but there are a few marks here and there, and there was a half-inch hole in the top of the bag surrounded by rust marks. The hole has been repaired by adding an adhesive patch to the back then sewing on another piece of seed sack to cover it. The front has been stitched closed to the new piece of backing (see last photo).
Also, there are a few seeds left in the fabric.

General Offices of Huey's Seed Company were located in Carthage, Illinois. The company's logo also notes the seed was "Improved, Adapted, High Quality" -- these words on written in green cursive print on a dark blue background. Red and yellow also are used in the design. Above the logo are the numbers "11-23" and the words "Reg Flat." Underneath the logo are the words "One Bushel." The bottom of the bag has a logo for Blue Ribbon Bags.

The original finished bag edges were used for the top and bottom of the apron. A double row of stitching in the top will help prevent a small nick from fraying. The hemline still shows the original holes where the bag was stitched together. The bag back was used for the sides and have been reversed to add depth to the look of the apron. The side seams edges have been turned under to prevent fraying. The bag is heavyweight, so the vintage red trim and ties were double stitched to assure strength. To adjust the length, simply put a knot in the neck ties.

Huey's Seed Company was established in 1923 by Lee Edward Huey of Plymouth, Illinois, according to the Hancock County Historical Society of Carthage, Illinois. The company was moved to Carthage in 1933. The company's seeds were used in several research test plots.

The apron waist is 26 inches.
The length is 30 inches.
The ties are 28 inches.
This apron best fits women's sizes small to extra large.
Cold water wash and line dry are recommended to prevent further fading.

* Please keep in mind this apron was created from an authentic vintage cloth sack. While the apron is described as accurately as possible, there may be age marks that are not described due to the vintage quality. Also, finding some or many seeds caught in the fabric is quite common. The bags have been washed at least once and many seeds have already been removed, but a few or several may remain.
