Royal River Seamless Feed Sack Apron - One Size

$65.00

Royal River is the brand of vintage seamless feed bag used for this apron.

The bag is fairly clean, but there are general stains, including a few a little larger, and spotting as is typical of this vintage type of feed bag. There is an original patch that was quite frayed on the back (photo 3). I was able to turn under most edges, but there is still a spot that will fray. Another patch covers a small hole (photo 4). A water stain also exists as well as a few fabric pulls. Please consider these factors before purchase.

Different widths of cotton webbing were used for the neck strap and the waist ties. Cold water wash and line dry are recommended to prevent fading and shrinking.

The apron waist is 35 inches.
The length is 35 inches.
The ties are each an extra long 47 inches.
Please use measurements to determine sizing.
Many men choose this type of apron for grilling or outdoor cooking.

The Yarmouth, Maine, Historical Society notes that the Royal River had a lasting impact on the community: "There are four falls along the river and the energy produced by them led to the development of the town. Grain, lumber, fulling mills were among the early types of mills found along the river. Paper making started at the second falls in 1816 when William Hawes and the Cox brothers built their mill on Bridge Street. This mill lasted in various forms until about 1840. The familiar brick mill, known today as the Sparhawk Mill, was built in 1855, replacing an earlier structure that was damaged by fire. Operating under the name Royal River Manufacturing Company, this mill manufactured cotton yarn, cloth, and seamless grain bags. Production continued at the mill until 1951."

* Please keep in mind this apron was created from an authentic vintage cloth sack. Photos show the design and print darker than in actuality. While the apron is described as accurately as possible, due to the vintage quality there may be age marks not noted specifically. Also, finding some or many seeds or feed pieces caught in the fabric is quite common. The bags have been washed at least once and many seed/feed pieces have already been removed, but some may remain.
