A simple logo done in blue was used as the design on the vintage feed sack chosen to make this apron.
The logo features a rectangle with a circle that reads "Gooch's Best." Underneath are the words "Mash Maker Concentrate." Finally are the words:
Manufactured By
Gooch Feed Mill Co.
Lincoln, Nebr., Salina, Kansas
Dalhart, Texas
There also is a Bemis logo on the apron, as well as a box noting the designs would wash out of the bag. Please know this bag was machine washed and dried before construction, and the design is still there! However, cold water wash and line dry are recommended to prevent further fading and shrinking. Washing it in warm or hot water indeed would delete the design! The apron is trimmed blue. To adjust the length, simply place a knot in the neck tie where desired.
The apron does have a few issues, including general stains as are typical of this age of sack, as well as some darker spots here and there. Please consider all of these factors before purchase.
The bodice width is 14 1/2 inches.
The waist is 35 inches.
The length is 35 inches from the top bodice center to the hemline.
The waist ties are each 29 inches.
This apron best fits women's sizes medium, large or extra large.
From the History of Nebraska website:
"Herbert Elmer Gooch established the Gooch Milling & Elevator Company at Fifth and South Streets in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1908. Capacity of the milling operation expanded over the years, and in 1939, J.J. Vanier & Associates of Salina, Kansas, purchased Gooch’s Mill. The mill continued to operate under the Gooch name and sold numerous varieties of flour, pasta and bread. By 1960, Gooch’s had a four million-bushel-capacity elevator system. Arthur Daniels Midland (ADM) purchased the Gooch Milling property in 1970."
* Please keep in mind this apron was created from an authentic vintage cloth sack. Photos show the design and print darker than in actuality. While the apron is described as accurately as possible, due to the vintage quality there may be age marks not noted specifically. Also, finding some or many seeds or feed pieces caught in the fabric is quite common. The bags have been washed at least oDnce and many seed/feed pieces have already been removed, but some may remain.
