Earl May Maygold Farm Seed Sack Apron Fits Sizes S - M - L

Sorry, this item has sold.

Very good colors are still seen in the vintage Earl May seed sack used for this apron.

The design shows a large ear of seed corn with its' kernels being dropped into a pot with a dollar sign on it (think pot of gold). The words are:
Earl May
Maygold
Farm Seed
Earl May Seed Co.
Shenandoah, Iowa

The words written vertically have been sewn into the welted seam. Colors used are blue, red, yellow and brown. Many similar bags have faded quite a bit, so the brilliant colors are unusual. There is a stamp at the top of the apron reading Balbo Rye 108.

Vintage flour sack fabric in blue, red and yellow is added to the top and bottom of the apron for additional length. The apron is trimmed blue. To adjust the length, simply place a knot in the neck tie where desired. Cold water wash and line dry are recommended to prevent fading and shrinking. This design is know for fading, so please be careful to use cold water only.

The apron does have a few issues, including general stains as are typical of this age of sack, as well as some darker spots here and there. There is a larger spot on one side, as well as some along the bottom edges beside the original stitch holes. The photos also show stains along the seam. Please consider all of these factors before purchase.

The bodice width is 11 inches.
The waist is 24 inches.
The length is 32 inches from the top bodice center to the hemline.
The waist ties are each 30 inches.
This apron best fits women's sizes small, medium or large.

According to the company website, Earl May founded the company in 1919 in Shenandoah, Iowa. Besides seed, the company originally also sold baby chickens, tires, batteries, radios, paint, shoes and clothing. Today, the company operates 28 stores in Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas.

* Please keep in mind this apron was created from an authentic vintage cloth sack. Photos show the design and print darker than in actuality. While the apron is described as accurately as possible, due to the vintage quality there may be age marks not noted specifically. Also, finding some or many seeds or feed pieces caught in the fabric is quite common. The bags have been washed at least once and many seed/feed pieces have already been removed, but some may remain.
