Made from a vintage laundry bag, this soup can apron has a very recognizable design!
The design is the classic Campbell's Condensed Soup can with red and gold print. A coordinating vintage fabric in dark red with dark yellow flowers is used to create the apron sides. The apron is trimmed in red. To adjust the length, simply place a knot in the neck tie where desired. Cold water wash and line dry are recommended to prevent fading and shrinking. The fabric is a lightweight canvas-type cotton.
The apron does have some issues. There are three patches, as shown in the photos. There also are some loose threads where holes likely will develop some day. Please consider these factors before purchase.
The bodice width is 11 inches.
The waist is 26 inches.
The length is 27 inches from the top bodice center to the hemline.
The waist ties are each 30 inches.
This apron best fits women's sizes small, medium or large.
According to the Campbell’s website, Joseph Campbell, a wholesale fruit and vegetable vendor, and Abraham Anderson, a commercial canner and packer, formed the firm of Anderson & Campbell in Camden, New Jersey, in 1869. This would one day become Campbell Soup Company. In 1894, Arthur Dorrance succeeded retiring Joseph Campbell. This change ended the association of the original founders, with Abraham Anderson having previously left the partnership in 1876. In 1895, the first jar of ready-to-eat soup, Beefsteak Tomato, was introduced. New Jersey Beefsteak tomatoes was the signature product for over 25 years, featured prominently on the labels and first trademark.
In 1897, Dr. John T. Dorrance, Arthur’s nephew, invented the process of condensing soup, leading to smaller packaging in cans. The invention made soups more affordable for families while preserving the quality of the ingredients. In 1898, the first red & white soup can label debuted after a company executive attends the annual Cornell-Penn football game and was impressed by Cornell’s new red and white uniforms.
In 1922, the company adopted “Soup” as the middle name, officially becoming Campbell Soup Company. A new 136,000 square-foot corporate headquarters was opened in 1957 less than a mile from the original location in Camden, New Jersey. The company is still there today.
