Duolite Diamond Chemicals was the name of the company that used the canvas sack that has been made into this apron.
From the information found about the company (see below), it is difficult to determine the original purpose of this sack. It could have held any one of a number of items. The sack is in very good shape. It reads:
Duolite
Diamond Chemicals
2 Cu. Ft. Lot _____
Diamond Alkali Company
Western Division
Redwood City, California
The logo is in blue and and white. Cotton webbing was used for the neck strap and the waist ties. Cold water wash and line dry are recommended to prevent fading and shrinking.
The apron does have a few issues, including general stains as are typical of this age of sack, as well as some darker spots here and there. There is a more noticeable area below the printing. and on the sides. A blue ink run also appears on one side. There is a rust spot at the top of the bag. Please consider all of these factors before purchase.
The bodice width is 13 inches.
The waist is 35 inches.
The length is 30 1/2 inches from the top bodice center to the hemline.
The waist ties are each 51 inches.
Please use measurements to determine size. This apron was designed for men, but many women like to purchase these sturdy aprons.
Diamond Chemical Co., Inc. was founded in 1930 by Jacob Diamond. The company began as a manufacturer of sodium hypochlorite (liquid bleach), which was sold to consumers door to door, and later to laundromats and commercial laundries. As the company grew, it began manufacturing other products for laundry and dry cleaning, as well as specialty chemicals. As industry in the United States expanded after World War II, Diamond Chemical soon began serving businesses of all kinds, expanding product offerings into ware wash, floor care, housekeeping, organic intermediates, industrial and consumer products. The company later became part of another which then became part of another company, and so on — too much to follow the trail!
* Please keep in mind this apron was created from an authentic vintage cloth sack. Photos show the design and print darker than in actuality. While the apron is described as accurately as possible, due to the vintage quality there may be age marks not noted specifically.
