The words "Short LG Flat" are printed on the feed sack used for this apron.
The company logo features the words Royal River Seamless surrounding the letter A. Lines to create a circle are around all. Cotton webbing was used for the neck strap and the waist ties. Cold water wash and line dry are recommended to prevent fading and shrinking.
The apron does have a few issues, including general stains as are typical of this age of sack, as well as some darker spots here and there. Two patches have been made. Part of a separate feed bag was used for the apron sides. You will note the stripes are different, as well as the texture. Also, these sides are cleaner than the middle portion. Please consider all of these factors before purchase.
The bodice width is 13 inches.
The waist is 32 inches.
The length is 39 inches from the top bodice center to the hemline.
The waist ties are each 51 inches.
Please use measurements to determine size. This apron was designed for men, but many women like to purchase these sturdy aprons.
The Yarmouth, Maine, Historical Society notes that the Royal River had a lasting impact on the community: "There are four falls along the river and the energy produced by them led to the development of the town. Grain, lumber, fulling mills were among the early types of mills found along the river. Paper making started at the second falls in 1816 when William Hawes and the Cox brothers built their mill on Bridge Street. This mill lasted in various forms until about 1840. The familiar brick mill, known today as the Sparhawk Mill, was built in 1855, replacing an earlier structure that was damaged by fire. Operating under the name Royal River Manufacturing Company, this mill manufactured cotton yarn, cloth, and seamless grain bags. Production continued at the mill until 1951."
* Please keep in mind this apron was created from an authentic vintage cloth sack. Photos show the design and print darker than in actuality. While the apron is described as accurately as possible, due to the vintage quality there may be age marks not noted specifically. Also, finding some or many seeds or feed pieces caught in the fabric is quite common. The bags have been washed at least once and many seed/feed pieces have already been removed, but some may remain.
