Lionite General Abrasive Sack Apron Fits Sizes S-M-L

Lionite General Abrasives was the company that once used this vintage cloth sack that has been made into an apron.

The design feature shows the company logo in blue and yellow. A lion is featured in the middle of the circle with the words Lionite General Abrasive Co., Inc., and Niagara Falls. It is unusual to find this sack with such a bold design. Yellow tends to fade quite a bit when used on these vintage sacks, so cold water wash and line dry are recommended to help prevent fading and shrinking.

Cotton webbing was used for the neck strap and the waist ties.

The apron does have a few issues, including general stains as are typical of this age of sack, as well as some darker spots here and there. The photos show several areas where the apron appears to be dirty. However, it was washed before construction. The sack is just old.

The bodice width is 11 inches.
The waist is 22.5 inches.
The length is 29 inches from the top bodice center to the hemline.
The waist ties are each 36 inches.

Lionite General Abrasives was founded in 1916 by Harold A Richmond and Frank D Hamilton. The company produced abrasive grains, which are used to create sandpaper and other materials to help smooth items like metals or natural products. The company merged with U.S. Industries in 1969, then was acquired by Dresser Industries in 1976. Sold to Sterling Abrasive Products company in 1988, it was acquired by Treibacher Schleifmittel in 1993, Treilbacher Schleifmittel North America Inc. in 2000, then Imerys Fused Minerals of Niagara Falls in 2013.
