Rising's Mill and Elevator Chicken Feed Sack Apron / Grain Sack Apron / Upcycled Vintage Feed Sack Apron Sizes S-XL

Sorry, this item has sold.

This upcycled apron was created from an authentic vintage feed sack. Rising's Mill and Elevator in Iowa made the chicken feed this sack once held.

The sack design and print are in blue. Pictured is a chicken, chicks and eggs on hay with retro-looking geometric designs in the background. The words above say "100 Lbs. Net." Underneath the design are the words:
Rising's Mill & Elevator
Algona, Iowa
Chase Bag Co.
Minneapolis

The sides seams were turned under to minimize fraying. The top and hemline are the original finished edgings, but were turned under to help provide stability to the apron. The marks where the sack was stitched together can still be seen at the hem. Vintage blue bias tape was used to finish the edges and for the ties. To adjust the length, simply put a knot in the neck ties.

There are a few small spots on the apron. The sack had two holes each about one-inch square, but they have been repaired by me. A mending patch was applied to the back, then a piece of feed sack was sewn over it. Stitching on the outside covers the holes (see last three photos). Some fraying may still occur, but not much.

Not much information about Rising's history could be found easily in print, although I did find newspaper advertisements for the company including one from 1952. However, one woman contacted me to let me know this elevator was her family's, and she remembered visiting there while growing up. It is a joy to make aprons from vintage fabrics and linens that have that type of history!

The apron waist is 34 inches.
The length is 34 inches.
The ties are 29 inches.
This apron best fits sizes small to extra large.
Cold water wash and line dry are recommended to prevent further fading.

* Please keep in mind this apron was created from an authentic vintage cloth sack. While the apron is described as accurately as possible, there may be age marks that are not described due to the vintage quality. Also, finding some or many seeds caught in the fabric is quite common. The bags have been washed at least once and many seeds have already been removed, but a few or several may remain.
