Today was the day to start my Christmas decorating! However, not much happened.

We lived in our last house for 15 years, and developed a great collection of items that fit the 1905 Foursquare style. A job transfer brought us to the Kansas City area three years ago in the middle of December, if you can believe it. That first year we still had boxes piled everywhere at Christmas. We got a tree and managed to find the box of ornaments and the stockings. Last year we went to our daughter's in North Carolina, so did not even try to decorate.

Which bring us back to today. I have no idea what we saved and what went to the thrift store when we moved. So, opening each box is like starting all over with decorating. Also, our new home is just a few years old, so what fit our prairie/Victorian style house may not fit the modern style.

After evaluating, the linens were the first things to be added. A burgundy tablecloth made a big difference, and Christmas table runners went on other pieces of furniture. That was enough for today! Over the next week, the decorations will probably get moved several times before finding their right place. It's likely a few years will be needed to develop a look that still makes our family members feel like they are home for the holidays.
